Adventuring Amidst Sunshine and Mist

One of the things that delights me so here in Kauai is the sliding scale of weather to be experienced even in a single day - and none of it snow!

The colours of everything are made deeper, more vibrant when the sun breaks through mists and rain. Suddenly everything is fiercely alive and rich.

Then the rain will come or the mist will envelope and everything is muted, soft and fragrant.

Were I younger I would be learning to surf and hiking the Kalalau Trail to hidden beaches and waterfalls.

These days I will be enjoying the surf as it rolls white headed breakers in mystical rhythm onto the wet sand. I will pull out my art supplies and try to capture these memories in pigment and line.

If we are adventurous we can go snorkeling or kayaking.

Ice cream is always welcome and we have our favorite place here in Princeville.

Much to my delight there is a small shop that carries art supplies (as well as delightful puzzles, games, toys and beautiful stuffed animal puppets). I eat my ice cream while sitting on the sun warmed bench outside the art shop then wander in to be surrounded with inspiration. Today I bought a water-soluble Graphite stick or two and the essential Micron pen. Perfect, as my own Micron is nearing the end ofnits long life.

First though we hopped over to Hanalei to do some desultory exploration and plan for another visit later. Likely we will head to the beach here in a day or two. Its a sweet beach with views down the coast where the luxurious mountains of the NaPaLi tumble down to the ocean, crowned with mists and laced by dappled sunlight.

Well, here’s a photo dump, probably a little out of order.
